This Week's Musical Gems: Schubert Songs

Written by BPO Staff | Feb 20, 2021 1:01:45 AM

Today we bring you two Interpretations of Music: Lessons for Life classes in which Maestro Zander coaches young singers on Schubert songs.

The first is baritone Christian Schwebler with pianist Dina Vainshtein, performing "Aufenthalt" from Schwanengesang. Maestro Zander explains that Schubert "takes us to the extremity of feelings."

In the second class, Maestro Zander reminds soprano Abigail Lee and pianist Yuan Wang that the people in the room listening "have deep feelings, too, and you're trying to connect with their deep feelings," as they perform "Du bist die Ruh.” We think you'll find by the end of the class that they succeed in making this connection, even with those of us watching the video after the fact.

We send our warmest wishes to you and your loved ones this weekend.
