This Week's Musical Gems: Mahler & Beethoven

Maestro Zander continues to appreciate hearing from so many of you. He is making progress, but will spend a couple more weeks in rehab, as he can't yet bend either of his knees, which limits his mobility significantly. He led another remote BPYO session last weekend and seems unflagging in his trademark energy!

A year ago this week we were preparing for the first Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra performance of the season. Today we are pleased to share with you the video playlist of Mahler's First Symphony from that performance.

From our Interpretation Class archives, we bring you a newly-released video of Maestro Zander coaching a young conductor on the challenging first movement of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony during the BPYO tour of Spain in 2016. He advises: "The job of the conductor is to know...everything about the music and make it come alive for the orchestra...Remind them how incredibly exciting this is!" Anyone who has seen Maestro Zander in action knows that he models this excitement in all of his performances.
